Compromise spurned by boat speed-limit supporters

With a hearing on Thursday, supporters of a bill to modify the current speed limits on New Hampshire's Lake Winnipesaukee have offered a compromise that would keep the 45 mph daytime and 30 mph nighttime limits on the bays of the Big Lake, but not in The Broads.

Given, however, that The Broads are the "hub" of the lake, opponents of Senate Bill 27, like Warren Hutchins of Laconia, have dismissed the offer by the Safe Boaters of New Hampshire outright, saying they have already compromised once and pointing out that the vast majority of residents support the existing speed limit law.
