Crewmember pleads guilty in boy's death
The first Coast Guard petty officer to be sentenced for a boy's death in a 2009 boating accident received a reprimand Wednesday as punishment for being derelict in her duty.
Boatswain's mate Third Class Brittany Rasmussen, 26, pleaded guilty in a court-martial to failing to tell the driver of a 33-foot Coast Guard patrol boat that her view of the water was blocked.
The family of 8-year-old Anthony DeWeese called the punishment a "slap on the wrist" for Rasmussen, who originally faced more serious charges along with the boat's pilot and another crew member.
