Cruise ship rescues six from disabled yacht

Six people were rescued at sea by a cruise ship after their sailboat lost its rudder in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

The Coast Guard received a distress signal around 8 a.m. Tuesday and asked the Norwegian Star to help because the disabled yacht was only 54 nautical miles away from the ship.

“Please join us in thanking Capt. Kenneth Harstrom and the incredible team on board Norwegian Star for responding and bravely rescuing a distressed sailboat this morning,” the cruise line posted on its Facebook page. “Upon reaching the Avenir, Norwegian Star’s crew worked to rescue the passengers and quickly transfer all six occupants on board the ship.”
