‘Divine intervention’ credited with dad's heroic rescue

A fun family day on the water turned on a dime over the weekend for a Massachusetts family. Before Bruce Williams knew it, his wife was screaming, his terrified 12-year-old daughter was in the water and an unmanned inflatable dinghy with outboard engine on high was circling her.

Bruce Williams told himself to keep calm, then jumped in with one thought in mind: “Keep her from getting hit, save my baby anyway I could.”

Six times, the driverless boat, its throttle stuck, circled them in the waters of the Back River between Weymouth and Hingham.
