Dock builders now busy in Southwest Florida

Federal agencies have released hundreds of boat dock permits throughout Florida’s Lee County that had been held up since the beginning of the year in the disagreements over manatee protection measures.

Many of the permits being issued are in areas of Southwest Florida such as Estero Bay, Pine Island Sound and the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River, according to a report in the Bonita Daily News.

Ben Nelson, owner of Nelson Marine and a Bonita Springs city councilman, told the newspaper he received a permit for a project along the Estero River. He’d submitted the application more than a year ago, he said.
