Dog falls off boat, rescuers dive right in

New York City police officers jumped into the frigid waters of the Hudson River on Friday to rescue a German shepherd that had fallen off a boat and was stuck under a pier.

Harbor unit officers received the emergency call Friday morning, when it was snowing. Eight-year-old Chloe had fallen off her owner's boat and was trapped under pilings at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan, police said.

Detective Matthew Sherman pulled on gear and dived into the 20-foot-deep, 46-degree water.
