Dog’s best friend

Boater turns the old saying on its ear when he and canine crew end up in the water

A West Virginia man fishing on a lake from a 12-foot boat with his beloved black spaniel mix dog found himself in trouble when the boat capsized in 50-degree water last week, according to local press reports.

When a state trooper paddled out to rescue them, the man asked that his dog – which he had pushed onto the overturned hull while he floated beside in a life jacket – be rescued first.

Both were taken ashore safely, but the man told a reporter that he and his wife had lost both of their children in a car accident 15 years earlier and the dog, named Lacy, is like a child to them.
