Fall boat preview - Sailboats - PART II

Hallberg-Rassy, C&C 115, Bavaria 39, Morris Yachts' M42, Bruckmann Daysailer

From Swedish builder Hallberg-Rassy comes a long-range cruiser with “unlimited bluewater capabilities.” Designed by German Frers, the 37-footer continues the Hallberg-Rassy tradition with its center cockpit and hard windscreen, solid hull laminate below the waterline

and Divinycell-core above, and a

glassed-over hull-deck joint.

Hallberg-Rassy is one of the few builders to install furniture and tanks through the companionway after the hull and deck have been joined, so later removal is possible.

Of similar length but more performance-oriented is the C&C 115. A long waterline and a sail area-to-displacement ratio of 24.1 will appeal to racer/cruisers and club-level racers who like to place high or get to their weekend destinations quickly. To save weight and maximize stiffness, the

hull is laminated with unidirectional

E-glass over Core-Cell foam.

The boat’s standard equipment includes a carbon fiber mast.

German builder Bavaria Yachts will show the Bavaria 39, a new model in the “Cruiser” series that the importer markets as a vessel for coastal sailing with full offshore capabilities. Bavaria emphasizes that the boat offers comfort and easy handling for a shorthanded crew, with halyards and sheets led aft to the cockpit. A walkthrough transom provides

access to the swim platform

 Bavaria 39

and makes it easier to board by the stern.

To accommodate offshore-minded cruisers, Bavaria added a dodger coaming forward of the companionway.

Morris Yachts focuses on a clientele that prefers classic lines and features. Following last year’s successful debut of the M36 daysailer, Morris has added the M42, a boat equipped with more cruising amenities and more interior space than its little sister, including a

large saloon, galley, head, forward V-

berth, and 6-foot, 3-inch headroom. The boat is delivered in sailaway fashion with virtually everything included, from fleece fender covers to instrumentation. Morris says the M42 allows single-handing and shouldn’t intimidate newcomers to the sport.

Keeping with the classic theme, Bruckmann Yachts of Mississauga, Ontario, will show the 42-foot Bruckmann Daysailer. Designed by Doug Zurn, the boat should appeal to those devotees of traditional looks and lively performance who love to go for an afternoon spin or perhaps an overnight in a pretty anchorage. Differing from designs that seek to maximize

interior space, the Bruckmann

 Bruckmann Daysailer

Daysailer is characterized by a low,

short coach roof, large cockpit, uncluttered deck, and fairly aggressive sail plan.
