Father dies in boat drama; son winched to safety

A father-son fishing trip ended in tragedy New Year's Eve morning after the death of a 76-year-old man in Jurien Bay, 165 miles north of Perth, Australia.

The RAC rescue helicopter and local Jurien Bay volunteer marine rescue service were sent to the area to search for the vessel in distress after an EPIRB emergency beacon was activated at 9:06 a.m.

Rescuers located an upturned vessel with two people on the hull, approximately five to seven nautical miles northwest of Jurien Bay.

A 47-year-old man was winched to safety after he tied his father's dead body to the upturned boat.
