Fatigue a factor in ship disaster

The man at the helm of a giant coal carrier that crashed into Australia's Great Barrier Reef was chronically fatigued at the time of the accident, according to a preliminary report.

The Shen Neng 1, a giant ore ship, was sailing from the Queensland port of Gladstone to China when it struck the reef, carving a two-mile path of destruction in the coral and spilling two tons of heavy oil into the sea.
