Fight broke out before party boat crash

The skipper of an out-of-control party boat that crashed into a wharf, injuring nine people, was involved in a violent confrontation with passengers as he attempted to fix a faulty gear, according to Australian investigators.

Maritime inspectors, who gave the boat a full safety clearance last month, are investigating reports that Capt. Dallas Clayton was allegedly assaulted by passengers on board the vessel Katika. Clayton blamed the accident on a faulty gear that propelled the boat at speed into the wharf and four other vessels.
