Fines issued after fishing boat collision
The Coast Guard issued fines to crewmembers of the fishing vessel Ocean Beaut for their part in a Jan. 12 collision off Oregon with the fishing vessel Columbia Star.
Though the case is ongoing, the ship’s master of the Ocean Beaut was charged with negligent operation of a vessel and boating while intoxicated and may be fined $1,000. The deckhand of the Ocean Beaut was charged with refusal to submit to a drug test and negligence and may be fined $7,500. Both men have since been terminated from their positions aboard the Ocean Beaut and no longer work for the vessel’s owner.
