California commercial fisherman Curtis Hebert was on a five-day fishing trip when he awoke early one the morning to a call for help on the radio from another boat that was sinking.
"At the time, I didn't know where the boat was," Hebert told the Ventura County Star.
Another call went out 15 minutes later.
The boat was continuing to sink and the man on board said he didn't think it would stay afloat much longer, Hebert said. The caller also said his boat was anchored at Beacher's Bay.
Hebert, 53, responded, saying he would help and drove hard to the site.
