Fishing boat hit by oil tanker

Two fishermen have admitted that they are lucky to be alive after an oil tanker hit their boat off the east coast of England in the North Sea.

Fishing for cod and skate from their 32-foot boat, the two men said they spotted a tanker about two miles away and radioed the vessel to provide their position.

"He confirmed that he would navigate away from us, but 15 minutes later he came too close, so I called the radio again but there was no answer," fisherman Richard Morgan told the local newspaper.

The 797-foot Singapore-flagged Zaliv Vostok bore down on the smaller boat, which one fisherman said looked like "a solid wall of steel."
