A Danish trawler netted a catch that was impossible to land: a German submarine.
The sub was participating in a NATO exercise May 10 off northern Denmark when it was caught in the trawler’s net, according to European press reports. The sub was forced to surface, surprising the Danish fisherman aboard the trawler, according to Germany’s Deutsche Welle news agency.
No injuries were reported, but it took rescuers several hours to free the submarine from the trawler, which damaged its nets in the accident.
Ten years ago, three Danish fishermen drowned when their boat was pulled down by a German submarine caught in its nets.
