The Coast Guard says it teamed with a Good Samaritan to rescue four people whose boat caught on fire off the South Carolina coast.
The Coast Guard says around 11 a.m. Sunday, it got a distress call from a boat that the vessel had a fire on board, but that it had gone out. Moments later, the person radioed back to say the engine had caught fire again.
"At first he was calm, but all of the sudden in his next transmission he was yelling and almost incoherent, screaming that he was going to have to abandon his boat and get into his life raft," Petty Officer 3rd Class Tara Nocerino, watchstander with Sector Charleston, told WLTX News. "I told him to get in his raft and stay around the vessel and we lost comms with him at that point."
