The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary (Lansing Flotilla) is offering a free Vessel Safety Exam from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday for owners of recreational boats at Lake Lansing North boat ramp in Michigan.

The exam will ensure that all safety items are in working order and a safety sticker will be issued after one passes this Vessel Examination. There are no consequences to a boat owner whatsoever their boat does not pass this Vessel Exam. A free re-examination may then be scheduled.

This exam insures owners that their boats are equipped properly to address possible emergency situations. This exam by the Coast Guard Auxiliary will check for flares, fire extinguishers, a radio in working order, personal flotation devices and other items to keep boaters safe on Michigan’s water ways.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component (comprised of women and men) of the United States Coast Guard created by an Act of Congress in 1939. The Auxiliary supports the Coast Guard in nearly all of the service’s missions.
