Friends of skipper puzzled by high-speed fatal crash

The 65-year-old operator of a high-performance powerboat passed "at a high rate of speed" under a bridge closed for construction before he crashed into marshland, killing himself, his wife and a friend while leaving four passengers critically injured.

One friend described the skipper as "a very careful guy who never took any chances," while another said he was very familiar with the cruising area.
