Girl honored for boat fire reaction

A 10-year-old Seattle girl was honored for her quick thinking in the face of an emergency.

Home alone aboard the Formosa 51 sailboat she, her brother and her parents live aboard, young Ellie Brosius smelled smoke aboard her boat.

Acting on her own, Ellie alerted her neighbors and called 911. She even sent her dad a text.

"She sent me a text," Scott Brosius said. "'Dad, there's smoke,' but I didn't get in time."

The happy ending to the story has made the young girl a local celebrity.
