Hazardous inlet claims two boats in groundings

Four boaters were rescued after the two boats they were aboard grounded on the jagged stone jetty Sunday at Manasquan Inlet in Point Pleasant, N.J.

The captain of the 32-foot powerboat Slashbacks contacted Coast Guard Sector Delaware at 11:30 p.m. Sunday via VHF channel 16 reporting a loss of power while towing a 31-foot boat, named Lady Jane, through the inlet.

As a result of the power lost, the tow line parted and both boats grounded on the inlet’s southern jetty, stranding three on the jetty and one aboard Slashbacks, as both boats were pulverized on the rocks.
