Hit the docks at shows in Conn. and R.I.

Consider it a timely arrival. Just as true spring weather starts to take root in southern New England, weekend shows in Connecticut and Rhode Island offer the region’s boaters a chance to stretch their sea legs.

Amid abundant sunshine and temperatures in the 60s, the fourth annual Essex Spring Boat Show opened today and continues through Sunday.

The Brewer Yacht Sales Spring In-Water Used Boat Show will be held Saturday and Sunday at two locations: Brewer Pilots Point Marina in Westbrook, Conn., and Brewer Greenwich Bay Marina in Warwick, R.I.

The Essex, Conn., show, on the west bank of the Connecticut River, brings together Soundings — the media sponsor — Brewer Dauntless Shipyard & Marina and six Essex-based dealers and brokers: Boatworks Yacht Sales, Wilde Yacht Sales, Eastland Yachts, Hank Aldrich Yacht Sales, Prestige Yacht Sales and the Essex Marine Group.

“From trawlers and center consoles to sailboats and express cruisers, this little show will offer the public a good number of quality builders and models,” Soundings editor-in-chief Bill Sisson says.

More than 50 boats from 23 to 60 feet will be on display — sail and power, new and used. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the Brewer Dauntless Marina at 9 Novelty Lane. Admission and parking are free.

The two-location Brewer Yacht Sales show, which the boatyard chain says is the largest in-water used boat show in New England, will feature powerboats and sailboats from 18 to 64 feet. It will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and admission is free.

Organizers are giving away two prizes: a test ride for four on the Brewer Boat Club’s newest vessel, a 2013 Sea Ray 240, and a sunset cruise on the former America’s Cup training boat Stars & Stripes.

The giveaway has online and in-person components at the Brewer Pilots Point Marina show. The online giveaway began Monday and continues through today. Sign-up is available at Brewer Yacht Sales’ Facebook page.

The in-person giveaway will occur Saturday and Sunday at the Pilots Point Marina location. Winners of the online and in-person contests will be announced at the end of the show on Sunday.
