A federal judge ruled Feb. 10 that Pro-Line’s 22 Bay Boat is an original design and not substantially similar in appearance to Maverick’s Pathfinder 2200 V-Hull.

Maverick had filed suit in the hull-splashing dispute in U.S. District Court back in 2002. Maverick also had warned Pro-Line dealers that if they continued to market the 22 Bay Boat, they, too, could be held liable for infringing on Maverick’s rights under the Vessel Hull Design Protection Act.

In addition to canceling both of Maverick’s registrations under the act, the judge ordered the company to pay Pro-Line’s attorney fees.
