It’s back to school for rescuers

Zodiac of North America launched a course earlier this year to train first responders in ice rescue, victim recovery and boat handling with inflatable and rigid-hull inflatable boats.

The first graduating class of the Zodiac Maritime Academy consisted of 28 first responders from Maryland, Maine, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Fire and sheriff’s departments, white-water rescue, and SWAT team members participated in the three-day course, held at Zodiac’s Stevensville, Md., facility.

The academy is open to all public safety and first responder personnel. Boat operator training and corporate leadership courses also are open to civilians.
