January global temperatures warmer than average

NOAA's State of the Climate report shows the combined global land and ocean surface temperature for January was the fourth-warmest on record while the global ocean surface temperature was the second-warmest.

Based on data going back to 1880, the monthly analyses, prepared by scientists at NOAA's National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C., are part of the services that NOAA provides to businesses, communities and governments so they may make informed decisions.
