The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum’s two lakefront locations , in Burlington and Vergennes, Vt., opened May 3 for a new season.
Museum staffmembers are preparing to launch the replica 1862 canal schooner, Lois McClure. It has been more than 125 years since a canal schooner was launched anywhere in the United States, according to the museum. The launch day was scheduled for July 3.
Exhibits at the museum will feature the latest archaeological fieldwork and historical research on the Canal Boat era, including newly conserved artifacts recovered from a canal boat shipwreck, and excerpts from the recently discovered journal of canal boat captain Theodore Bartley.
The museum is also hosting its annual juried show of lake-inspired photography, open to both professionals and amateurs. An Aug. 15 deadline has been set for photo submissions.
