Brenton Reef 40

The Brenton Reef 40 is a new Down East-style cruiser from Alden Yachts. Available in open express, hardtop express, saloon express and flybridge express models, standard power is from a pair of 370-hp Yanmars, though the first Brenton Reef has Yanmar 440s.

Standard equipment includes a two-burner stove, refrigerator, microwave, generator, flat-screen television, GPS, autopilot and fiberglass swim platform.

“By standardizing our construction methods and offering this boat fully equipped and ready to go, we are able to offer substantial savings over our traditional line of custom yachts,” Alden Yachts president David MacFarlane said in a press release.

The 40-footer will be available in one- and two-cabin interior layouts. The standard arrangement calls for a forward master stateroom with a centerline V-berth, a galley to port and a choice of a guest cabin or saloon to starboard. The vessel has a teak and holly cabin sole, Corian counter tops and hanging lockers with cedar lining on the hull ceiling.

The raised bridge deck helm station has a forward-facing companion seat, and port and starboard L-shaped settees with a varnished teak table.

The Brenton Reef 40 measures 40 feet, 5 inches overall and has a beam of 14 feet, 6 inches. It draws 3 feet, 8 inches, including the running gear. It carries 180 gallons of water, 450 gallons of fuel, and displaces 22,000 pounds.

The modified-vee hull is vacuum-bagged and post thermal cured, using E-glass and Kevlar with epoxy resins. Base price is $647,300.

The Brenton Reef 40 debuts at the Newport (R.I.) Boat Show in September.
