Launched from a towed tube

In a scene more believable in a nautical comedy, a 14-year-old boy had a soft landing when he was thrown from a tube being towed by his grandfather.

The teenager was out with his grandfather, who was driving a 20-foot ski boat with four people on board in Mission Bay,Calif., during Labor Day weekend, according to a report in The Log Newspaper.

The boy’s grandfather reportedly saw another boat with three women aboard swerving from side to side, and approaching the ski boat. To avoid a collision, the grandfather reportedly made a sharp turn at a high speed, which launched his grandson off the tube — and right into the other vessel.

When he looked back and saw the tube was empty, the grandfather turned around just in time to see his grandson in the lap of one of the bikini-clad women, according to the report.

The boy was not injured and, although he complained of rib pain, he did not seek medical attention. Citations were issued to both parties by the San Diego Lifeguard Service Harbor Patrol — to the grandfather for driving a skier into an object, and the skipper of the other boat for driving in excess of 5 knots with another boater nearby.
