Top marine photographer Onne van der Wal has been asked for years to do a photography workshop from his preferred shooting platform - a boat - and finally it is happening.
On Aug. 25, van der Wal and 20 shooters will spend the afternoon and evening aboard a beautifully restored 50-foot Maine lobster/tour boat, M/V Gansett, in Narragansett Bay. Over the course of the evening, they will shoot lighthouses, schooners, regattas, Newport Harbor and the beauty of Narragansett Bay.
Because of the popularity of this first Workshop on the Water, van der Wal is adding a second workshop in September on a date to be determined.
Attendees will be treated to more than four hours of instruction and interaction with van der Wal as they cruise and shoot the Bay. Dinner and drinks will be served aboard and a "goody bag" of art and photo items will be given.
Van der Wal shoots with Canon 1Ds mkIII cameras and a representative from Canon is planning on attending the workshop (however, any camera is welcome). Tripods are not allowed and boating attire is suggested (i.e. windbreaker and boat shoes).
