Doctors and health professionals can earn continuing medical education credits while learning to sail in a new program offered by Offshore Sailing School and the Wilderness Medical Society.
“Medicine for Mariners” courses will emphasize the treatment of common injuries, illnesses and medical emergencies associated with sailing, scuba diving and snorkeling. Topics include hypothermia, drowning, hazardous marine life and on-board medical improvisation. Safety at sea considerations will be interwoven into the medical curriculum, which will be taught aboard Colgate 26 and Hunter 36 sailboats Nov. 14 to 20 on Captiva Island, Fla.
