‘Luckiest dog’ dies in boat blaze

Plucky sailboat pup Chloe - dubbed New York City's "luckiest dog" after she survived an icy dunk in the Hudson last month - died in a raging boat fire as her owner watched helplessly from a Chelsea pier.

"I lost a half-million-dollar boat and I'm more upset about Chloe," said owner Mark Stoss, 42, in a bedside interview at Bellevue Hospital.

Stoss recalled that it was the "gnarly" smell of burning plastic that awakened him at about 2:30 a.m. as he and Chloe slept in the cabin of his 35-foot catamaran docked at Pier 59 near West 17th Street.

"I opened the door and it just fanned the fire," he said.
