Mail boat continues deliveries 110 years later

Though it seems like a scene from the 1900s, the Old Forge, N.Y., mail boat still runs today and is one of 2,679,786 contracted delivery service routes nationwide through the U.S. Postal Service, according to a Postal Service report.

Jim Mauthe, 73, of Old Forge, has been delivering mail by boat for about two years.

“It’s nice, you meet nice people, nice dogs,” he said. “I just like being on the water. I just love it.”
