Penobscot Marine Museum opened for the season with exhibits of Maine-inspired art including "Inside the Box - the Art of Anne-Emmanuelle Marpeau." The exhibit features dioramas depicting scenes of maritime lore and legend from Maine's past.
A native of Brittany, France, Anne-Emmanuelle Marpeau crafts intricate dioramas (also known as a shadow box) based on history and stories from Maine's islands and remote coastal communities. Maritime disasters, lighthouse keepers, legends of ghost ships and tales of long-ago island celebrations are depicted. "Inside the Box" runs through Sept. 10, after which the artist's work will be exhibited at Gleason Fine Art in Boothbay Harbor.
