Two men who saw an Indiana man struggling in the water from a lake on wildlife management Wednesday morning jumped into the water to help him.
They were joined by two more passers-by who helped pull the 63-year-old Evansville man from a lake, but they were unable to save his life.
“Bless those four guys for trying to help,” said Indiana Conservation Officer Mike Kellner. “They risked their lives to try to help somebody. Whatever reason the victim died, the same thing could have happened to those four guys.”
Investigators believe the victim was attempting to put his boat in the water when a line holding the boat close to shore came loose. That allowed the boat to float into deeper water.
