Man drowns trying to secure boat in storm

A Halifax, Nova Scotia-area man drowned Saturday trying to secure a boat shortly after Hurricane Earl roared into the Canadian Maritimes.

The weather system, which was downgraded to a tropical storm as it moved inland over Nova Scotia, cut a wide swath of destruction. It toppled trees and felled power lines across the province, cutting electricity to as many as 200,000 households.
