Man to publicly thank Coast Guard for ocean rescue

George Rockwood wants to personally thank the Coast Guard crew that saved his life.

Rockwood, 77, was rescued by the Coast Guard after a rogue wave knocked him off his 30-foot schooner last Wednesday. At the time the incident happened, waves were five to eight feet high, with winds of 25 to 30 knots.

“It’s one of those really special things,” said Petty Officer Robert Simpson, a Coast Guard spokesman. “These guys don’t get a chance to be thanked by the people that they save. It’s something they’re looking forward to.”
