Norwegian builder Marex Boats is expanding to the United States. Over the first five months of 2025, Marex will have five models available for stateside clients. New Jersey-based Sandy Hook Yacht Sales, and Brewer Yacht Sales in Connecticut and Rhode Island will be Marex’s primary dealers in the U.S.

Chris Hughes, president of Marex Boats USA, says that now is the “ideal time” for the 51-year-old brand to officially come to the U.S. "There's a gap in the market," Hughes says, explaining that most builders have been moving away from inboard/POD drive owner-operated luxury, family cruisers over the last 12 years.

“Right now, for what Marex is offering in their models, you have to get into that 60-foot range [with other builders],” Hughes says. “And, once you get into the 60-foot range, you’re not really in owner-operator boats anymore. Marex is building from 31 feet right up to 45, but we’ll be announcing new and larger models over the next two years.”

Hughes says U.S. boaters can purchase a Marex yacht now and have it delivered in time for the upcoming boating season. For those who want an up-close look, the 330 Scandinavia and the 360 Cabriolet Cruiser will be at the Naples Boat Show in January; the 310 Sun Cruiser, 330 and 360 will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show in March; and all of Marex’s models, including the 375 Marex and both versions of the 440, will be at the Newport Boat Show in the fall.

From the Great Lakes, to Maine, Florida, Washington State and California, Hughes says Marex’s layouts and the standard dual sunroofs allow its yachts to be suitable for most any conditions. Two of Marex’s many distinguishing selling points, Hughes says, are its smart-enclosure system (offered on all its yachts) and the level of material appointments. In addition to two sunroofs, fore and aft, there is a hideaway enclosure that can seamlessly wrap around the cockpit without any snaps, buttons or zippers.

“If it gets colder, or if it rains, close it up. It’s so simple,” Hughes says, “because you don’t have to put the strata glass anywhere. It literally is on a track, and it stays in pristine condition because it’s always hanging, and it’s always in its dedicated space.”

Marex will showcase its newest model, the 440 Scandinavia, to the world at boot Düsseldorf in January. The 440 Scandinavia is the second version of the company’s 440 flagship. Its predecessor, dubbed the 440 Gourmet Cruiser, has a double-size galley with a bar module amidships; as for the 440 Scandinavia, there is a second C-shaped settee, another dining table and two barstools to port, and the galley and two-seat helm station are to starboard. Both versions can have either two or three staterooms.

The 440 Gourmet Cruiser has won four awards over the last two years, most recently winning the “Best for Family” category at the “Best of Boats Award” ceremony in Berlin. Combined, the 310, 330 and 360 have also won eight awards.

“To us, the best award is just that the boaters love them and keep buying them. That’s the best award,” Hughes said. “But it’s a nice validation because the list of innovations on each boat is phenomenal. … It’s motivating; it lets everyone know that we’re doing the right thing, and we’re making boaters happy.”
