Massachusetts town picked as turbine staging area

The town of New Bedford, Mass., will be chosen as the site for an estimated $35 million deepwater port to be used as a staging area for giant wind turbines destined for the Nantucket Sound wind farm, state officials said.

The 20-acre New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal is expected to bring about 200 jobs to the city during construction and is designed to lure more marine industries to the Whaling City.
Gov. Deval Patrick was scheduled to announce the project Wednesday in New Bedford.
