Monster fish pulls anglers' boat a mile before being landed
Minnesota angler James Yerhart has caught only one sturgeon in his life — but it was one he’ll never forget.
Yerhart and two buddies motored up the Mississippi River last Friday morning in a 14-foot Lund aluminum boat in search of walleye.
After a slow start, Yerhart hooked something that wasn’t budging, and figured he had a snag.
"I had gotten a couple of snags. I thought I had another snag," he told the Pioneer Press. "Fishing below the dam, it was like being under a bunch of streetlights. I could see my line heading north, toward the dam. It was definitely moving."
