More Japanese tsunami debris washes ashore

A 20-feet blue and white fishing boat with Japanese writing on it was found in Long Beach Peninsula on March 22.

The Washington Marine Debris Taskforce told local media it suspects the boat is one of the many debris carried across the Pacific Ocean by the massive wave that hit Japan in 2011, however, it notes that no confirmation from Japanese authorities have been made yet.

In a similar incident just south along the coast, Oregon authorities have contacted the Japanese Consulate in Portland to find out whether a piece of presumed tsunami debris that washed up at Oceanside on Friday is culturally significant.

Chris Havel, of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, said staff members were called about part of a boat that washed up on the Oregon coast west of Tillamook.
