National Marina Day is this Saturday and it is shaping up to be the most widely celebrated day in the event's history, according to the Association of Marina Industries, which manages the event.
More than 125 marinas have registered events on the event’s website. Those that register represent just a portion of the facilities that are recognizing the day, the association said.
Twenty-nine states are represented so far this year, more than in any previous year. Florida has the largest concentration of participating marinas, but locations in the Midwest and West have greatly increased their participation in National Marina Day.
Planned activities include free boat rides; tours of tug, fire and police boats; opportunities to learn to kayak and sail; safety information; waterfront environmental information; fishing opportunities; boat races; build-a-boat opportunities; and food and music.
