Nautical researcher, author remembered

Marine researcher W. Richard Boehmer, 68, of West Bridgewater, Mass., died on Nov. 17.

“Richard was an author of a number of interesting articles on speed sailing and sailing records. He was also the keeper of the sailing records for the Guinness Book of World Records for a time,” naval architect Eric W. Sponberg wrote in a remembrance on the online newsletter Scuttlebutt. “He was the developer of the concept of "Base Speed," first for multihulls, and also applicable for monohulls, the final version of which was published in Multihull International in April 1989.”
