Nautical superstitions still run deep

When it comes to honoring superstitions, fishermen and sailors rank up there with athletes and gamblers. Their traditions are passed down like family heirlooms, according to John Peterson, owner and captain of the Unreal, which also runs charters out of Cape May.

Popular maritime superstitions warn against painting a boat blue or changing its name after it is christened. Sailors used to say it was unlucky to have a woman aboard.
