Navionics-Fugawi offer PC option

Navionics, an electronic charting and navigation data company, is bringing to market a number of new products and services.

Navionics, an electronic charting and navigation data company, is bringing to market a number of new products and services.

An agreement with the GPS mapping software company Fugawi will result in the inclusion of Navionics’ Gold cartography in Fugawi Marine ENC PC-based software. For the first time, Navionics cartography is compatible with PC-based systems.

“With the powerful Fugawi Marine ENC platform, boaters who prefer using the PC as their primary navigation system or as back-up to a dedicated chart plotter, can benefit from Navionics’ unrivaled accuracy and chart detail,” Bob Moshiri, Navionics vice president of sales and marketing, says in a news release.

Navionics’ newest charting product is called Gold+. Like the company’s Silver and Platinum cartography formats, Gold+ uses NOAA-based cartography and incorporates special features such as a wreck and diving database, the company says. Gold+ completes what the company calls its “good, better, best” lineup of cartography products.

Navionics’ new Bahamas cartography is available in its Platinum, Gold+ and Classic formats. The company says it combined digital satellite photography and information from a number of survey sources to create its “extremely accurate” charts.

NavPlanner, another new Navionics product, allows a boater to load, edit, save and transfer routes and waypoints from a plotter to a personal computer and back again. The NavPlanner is compatible with the Navionics’ Silver, Gold+ and Platinum marine cartography products. “With the convenience of planning at home and our renowned accuracy and detail, Navionics and NavPlanner reduce the surprises and improve boaters’ experiences on the water,” Moshiri says in the news release.

Navionics also is offering two new freshwater cartography products: HotMaps Premium and HotMaps USA. HotMaps Premium includes charts of more than 8,000 lakes and waterways in the United States and electronic Canadian charts. HotMaps USA provides charts of 3,000 of the most popular U.S. lakes and rivers, the company says, and comes with additional structure and transition information to help boaters find fish.

In addition to its HotMaps charts, Navionics has released a “high detail” paper chart of New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesauke. Like the other charts in its HotMaps Premium Paper Maps collection, the Lake Winnipesauke chart is full color and includes multi-colored depth contours, satellite overlays and insets showing the best fishing areas, the company says. All HotMaps Premium Paper maps include details about weed beds, sand bars, rocks and shoals. .
