Monterey Boats

The 290 Cruiser from Monterey Boats was introduced at the Miami International Boat Show this year and sports the styling that will be the standard for the forthcoming Monterey Cruiser and Sport Yacht models, according to the company.

The 290’s helm station houses full instrumentation, including a depth sounder, compass and tachometers. All gauges have no-fog polycarbonate lenses and chrome bezels, and electronic toggle switches are lighted. The boat comes standard with tilt steering, and the captain’s chair has a flip-up bolster. There is a remote control at the helm for the AM/FM/CD stereo, located in the cabin. There also is a pair of 12-volt receptacles.

Below, the 290’s galley has Granicoat countertops and is equipped with a refrigerator, electric stove, microwave, sink and coffee maker. The head compartment has a curtained, stand-up shower with a shower seat and comes standard with a 120-volt outlet and a VacuFlush marine head with holding tank. A mirrored vanity with sink and storage is included.

A dinette/settee is forward, and there is a U-shaped lounge in the aft midcabin. Both the settee and lounge convert to double berths with privacy curtains. In addition to the cabin’s upholstered surfaces, cherry is used to finish the 290’s interior.

The cockpit area has a removable transom seat and an entertainment center to port with wet bar, covered sink with faucet, built-in cooler, cup holders and additional storage. The 290 also has an integrated swim platform. Engine options include twin MerCruiser or Volvo Penta sterndrives. Base price with Volvo 4.3 GXi engines is $121,170.

McKee Craft Marathon 184

McKee Craft has added a new fishing boat to its lineup of “unsinkables.” Introduced at the Miami International Boat Show in February, the Marathon 184 center console is built entirely of composite construction using McKee’s Pressure Bonding System, rather than a stringer system, with closed-cell foam coring.

The hull carries a 10-year limited structural warranty.
The 184 is designed to handle rough water while providing a stable fishing platform, according to the company. It has a forward casting deck, a pair of 44-quart oval live wells — aerated and with LED lighting — and a four-drawer tackle center, as well as vertical and horizontal storage for 10 rods. Horizontal surfaces on the 184 have molded-in

nonskid, according to McKee Craft, and the boat has a recessed stainless steel bow rail and stainless steel grab rails on the console. There is storage inside the console as well as in the cockpit, which is equipped with four stainless steel rod holders.

Optional equipment includes a Bimini top, T-top with lockable electronics box, cushioned cockpit bolsters, and a leaning post or sliding captain’s chairs in lieu of a cooler seat.
