New Boats – February 2008

Regal 5260 Commodore Express

Regal Boats builds an award-winning line of runabouts and express cruisers. Last year it opened a 135,000-square-foot large-boat manufacturing facility in Orlando, Fla., and introduced a new flagship, the 5260 Commodore Express, powered by twin Volvo Penta IPS 600 steerable pod drives totaling 870 hp, with a joystick controller at the helm.

The boat’s lines show modern, angular styling, including a hardtop — with an opening sunroof — that encloses the bridge deck. The bridge deck area is laid out with plenty of wraparound lounge seating, with the helm positioned to starboard and a centerline companionway providing access to below-deck accommodations.

The saloon is laid out with a large, curved sofa with a table to starboard, while on the other side of the companionway steps is the L-shaped galley. A Yamaha surround-sound stereo system is standard. There’s an enclosed head and shower compartment forward of the galley.

The boat is available in two- and three-stateroom layouts, each including a forward stateroom with a choice of queen-size island berth or bunked double and single berths. The two-stateroom layout includes a full-beam master stateroom with a queen-size island berth and private head and shower compartment abaft the companionway stairs. The three-stateroom layout splits the master stateroom in two, one with a queen-size island berth and the other with bunked single berths.

Options in the cabin area include television upgrades, satellite TV, and an alternate saloon sofa. Cockpit options include a 36,000-BTU air conditioning system; teak inlays for the cockpit sole, stairs and swim platform; an electric grill for the wet bar; and power helm and companion chairs. Other exterior options include a foredeck sun lounge, boarding gangway and a PWC lift/hydraulic swim platform.

Ocean Billfish 37

Ocean Yachts has launched a 37-foot sportfisherman that it says pays homage to the custom sportfishing and charter boats of the 1960s. Though the 37 Billfish has a flybridge with upper helm station, the saloon and lower helm station are on the main deck with no aft saloon bulkhead, which provides access from the lower helm station to the cockpit comparable to an open express boat.

The flybridge is laid out with a centerline helm station flanked by cushioned bench seats. The hardtop has spreader lights and a three-sided enclosure, and there are five rocket launchers on the aluminum ladder leading to the cockpit. In the cockpit, there’s an in-transom live well, a pair of insulated in-deck fishboxes, bait-prep center, and a freezer. A fighting chair and icemaker can be added.

The saloon area has a convertible dinette to port, with seating and the lower helm station on the starboard side. The helm deck also has engine room access, a refrigerator, and a locking aluminum cabin door.

Below, there’s a stateroom forward, galley to starboard and an enclosed head and shower compartment to port. The stateroom has a lower double berth and upper single berth, a pair of hanging lockers, drawers and cabinetry, a rod storage shelf, a nightstand, and a 20-inch flat-screen television.

The galley comes equipped with Corian countertops, a stainless steel sink, two-burner stove, microwave/convection oven, and a refrigerator/freezer.

The 301 XD is an express-style sportfisherman from Triton Boats featuring wood-free construction, a hand-laid fiberglass hull with a limited lifetime warranty, and a foam-filled stringer grid system. The 30-footer is powered by twin outboards to 600 hp, which push the boat to a top speed of 51 mph.

The 301’s self-draining cockpit is outfitted for fishing, with non-skid surfaces, a transom door, transom shower, removable cockpit bolsters, tackle storage drawers, molded port and starboard rod boxes, and stainless steel toerails. There’s a foldaway aft bench seat forward of a 180-quart transom fishbox and a 34-gallon transom bait well.

On the raised helm deck there are a starboard-side bait-prep station and a port-side 100-quart insulated fishbox with overboard drain. A dual sliding helm seat on the starboard side has drop-down bolsters, while to port is L-shaped lounge seating with a drop-down jump seat. A fiberglass hardtop is standard.

Below, the cabin has a galley to port, enclosed head compartment to starboard, V-berth forward and a midcabin berth aft. Whaler 230 Dauntless

The Boston Whaler 230 Dauntless is one of a handful of models the builder is introducing as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. The new center console is designed for fishing, day cruising and family tow sports, according to the company, and is the largest of three Dauntless models.

The 23-footer boasts an enclosed head compartment and port and starboard bow seating with folding backrests, among other features. Storage in the bow area includes a pair of compartments for fishing rods and gear beneath the port and starboard seats, a storage compartment beneath the casting platform, and an anchor locker forward.

The forward console seat comes with a cushion and backrest and contains an insulated live well. On the helm side, the console has standard Mercury SmartCraft gauges and instrumentation, cup holders and footrests. A reversible pilot seat with a 25-gallon live well or a leaning post with a cooler and bait-prep station are available as options, and the stern seat’s backrest folds down to create an aft casting platform.

Owners choose between a full- and split-bow rail. Other options include a pair of pedestal seats for fishing, a T-top or hardtop, an “activity tower” or ski pylon, stereo system, satellite radio, electric trim tabs, freshwater shower with a 12-gallon tank, a bow table and a fishbox under the stern seat.
