New Boats July 2007

Sea Ray 55 Sundancer

Sea Ray’s lineup includes more than 40 models from 17 feet to 60 feet, and the 55 Sundancer, introduced earlier this year, is its third-largest. The hardtop express cruiser shows an S-shaped sheer line and has a curved windshield, extended fiberglass swim platform, and raised cockpit entertaining area that sits above twin diesel engines connected to V-drives. The boat has a welded stainless steel bow rail that runs from the cockpit forward, where there’s a sunpad on the foredeck.

The cockpit contains L-shaped aft bench seating and a grill. Beneath the hardtop, which has independent port and starboard sunroofs, seating includes a circular “carousel” multiposition lounge, double helm pedestal seats, and a double companion seat. The cockpit/bridge deck area also contains a refrigerator, icemaker and a wet bar with storage.

The 55’s cabin is laid out with two staterooms and two heads, although a third stateroom option is available. In the standard cabin layout, the full-beam master stateroom is aft, with the guest stateroom with island berth forward. (The third stateroom is added by splitting the master in two.) Between the two staterooms are the saloon and galley, to starboard and port respectively, and the second head and shower compartment, forward and to port. The galley comes equipped with a coffee maker, microwave/convection oven, three-burner electric stove, refrigerator, freezer with icemaker and stainless-steel sink. A washer/dryer combo also is standard, and the saloon includes an L-shaped convertible settee and entertainment center with a 32-inch flat-screen television.

The 55 has a fiberglass grid stringer system, and Sea Ray uses vinylester resin in the hull construction.

SeaVee 390

Miami-based SeaVee Boats offers one of the largest center console fishing boats on the market with the introduction of the 390 Series. And the deep-vee center console is available with triple or quadruple outboards, including a whopping 1,200 hp from four 300-hp Mercury Verados.

For fishing, the 390 has three fishboxes, including a large insulated forward fishbox, and options for up to three live wells. The transom live well has a capacity of 65 gallons. SeaVee says the boat can carry 41 fishing rods without using the gunwale-mounted rod holders.

The 390 has a dive door in the hull side with a stainless steel ladder, and seating includes aft jump seats and foldaway bow seating. The jump seats also fold flush when not in use.

In addition to several leaning post/tackle station options, a variety of T-top designs are available, as is an upper helm station. In-console options include a portable or electric-flush marine head. A pneumatic system makes sliding open the console’s large forward door easier. The forward fishbox and sliding cooler beneath the leaning post also can be connected to the pneumatic system.

While the 390 is SeaVee’s largest boat, the builder says a 42-foot express model is on the drawing board.

Offered with a variety of twin gas or diesel sterndrives, the boat has a Kevlar-reinforced hull and is built with a fiberglass stringer system, fiberglass cockpit liner deck, and a composite transom. The hull and deck carry a 10-year warranty, the powertrain a five-year warranty. The bow seating area comes with a cushion insert standard; a dinette table also is standard. The helm station is to starboard, with a companion seat and enclosed head compartment with portable marine head to port. A VacuFlush head is optional.

Moving aft, there is wraparound seating in the cockpit, along with a wet bar and optional refrigerator. The boat has a stereo system with six speakers, and a premium audio system, transom stereo remote control, and satellite radio also are available. The 302 has transom storage and a cooler, a sunpad above the actuated engine box, and removable bow and cockpit carpeting.

The three-sided pilothouse has a ventilation system and sliding windows; an aft curtain is available as an option.

The cockpit is equipped for fishing, with rod holders, horizontal rod racks, a pair of 80-gallon fishboxes, and a lighted live well. A folding aft bench seat is available as an option. There are captain’s chairs at the helm station, and a helm bench with storage underneath is optional. The boat has hydraulic steering and standard analog gauges.
