The Progressive Insurance New York Boat Show wrapped up Sunday with a 12 percent drop in attendance from 2013.

Opening on New Year’s Day, the show started strong, with exhibitors such as Rec Boat Holdings reporting 40 percent of its show sales on opening day.

A snowstorm on Thursday night, followed by another wind and snow storm on Friday, slowed attendance, organizers said.

Overall, several exhibitors reported solid leads and are excited about the move to more favorable dates in 2015 — Jan. 21-25.

“It was a very well-attended show and we saw quality attendees here to buy,” Mike Gravenese of Post Marine Supply said in a statement.
Beginning in 2015, the show returns to its traditional time frame of mid- to-late January, with dates locked in for the next five years.

“For many boating enthusiasts and their families, the historical start date of the Progressive Insurance New York Boat Show in mid- to late-January has become a much-anticipated tradition — an early peek at spring and summer outdoor recreation, as well as a primary sales venue for local boating businesses,” National Marine Manufacturers Association executive vice president Ben Wold said in a statement.

“We’re happy to hear that the 2014 show generated some business and an early boost for the industry and are optimistic that the nation’s oldest boat show will build momentum in the years ahead.”
