The Coast Guard Foundation was named the official charitable partner of the Newport (R.I.) International Boat Show.
Each year the show partners with a charitable organization to provide direct and indirect support of its cause. The show will be held Sept. 13-16 and it will donate a portion of its Sunday ticket sales to the foundation.
The show also will provide the foundation with a booth in Tent B within the show’s 13-acre site along America’s Cup Avenue in Newport where visitors can learn more about the foundation’s work and how they can make donations directly. Background about the foundation also is posted at the show’s website to create awareness of the group.
The foundation supports the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the volunteer arm of the service, providing units with critical funding for boating safety and mission-critical support. The foundation also provides education, support and relief to Coast Guard members and their families, as well as cadets at the Coast Guard Academy. It funds recreation and family-oriented facilities and supports education and morale programs at Coast Guard bases and on ships.
In times of loss, it offers financial relief to Coast Guard families who lose their possessions in natural disasters. When Coast Guard families lose a loved one in the line of duty, the foundation provides scholarship and relief funds to support them.
