The Detroit Free Press this week is running a six-part series on Asian carp.

A native of China with no known predators in this country, Asian carp have overwhelmed native fish populations by outcompeting them for food.

There are concerns that if the fish make it into the Great Lakes they could cripple the fishing and boating industries in those areas.

The newspaper’s stories will look at issues such as how deadly Asian carp would be to the Great Lakes; measures being taken to stop their arrival; and how much it could cost to get the carp under control.
