Nine pulled from water in capsizes

The Coast Guard rescued three people from New Jersey's Manasquan Inlet after their 64-foot fishing boat capsized.

The three mariners put out a distress call at 4:53 a.m. and were pulled aboard a Coast Guard boat.

The crew reported they were unable to control the vessel after its hydraulic hose broke, and they lost their clutch and steering and began drifting toward the rocks.

Meanwhile, the Coast Guard and good Samaritan rescued six people from an overturned catamaran off St. Petersburg, Fla.

The crew of Regal Star reported that they observed a life raft with six persons on board in the vicinity of the fairway anchorage at the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

The Coast Guard helicopter crew arrived shortly after 8 p.m. and notified the watchstanders at Sector St. Petersburg that the six people were sitting on top of an overturned catamaran and not a life raft.
